IT?S HIGH TIME TO DISMANTLE AND DEFUND THE PRESIDENT?S HEALTHCARE LAW

Washington, D.C. ? The House of Representatives brought two pieces of legislation that would implement a one-year delay in the employer and individual mandate -- two pillars of the President?s healthcare law. Congressman Randy Weber (R-Friendswood) made the following statement:

?I have been a strong opponent of this healthcare law since its inception. The government has no business controlling the healthcare system.

Former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi said, "We have to pass the bill to find out what is in it." Well folks, we've found out and even the President and his Administration can no longer deny the fact that this law is fatally flawed.

The Fairness for American Families Act and the Authority for Mandate Delay Act are steps in the right direction toward protecting Americans from the President?s unworkable mandates. However, it is still imperative that we work toward dismantling and defunding this disastrous law completely. I will continue to work with my colleagues to spur economic growth, create new jobs, and provide a more secure future for all Americans.?

The employer mandate requires businesses with 50 or more employees to provide health insurance or face an annual fine ranging from $2,000 to $44,000 per year. The individual mandate requires everyone to provide proof of health insurance or else face an annual penalty of $95 or 1 percent of household income. In 2016, the individual mandate penalty will rise to $695 or 2.5 percent of household income.
