In other words, it doesn?t make sense anymore to pay the mortgages since their properties are now worth less than what they actually owe.
But the process is definitely not a speedy one. On the average, it takes 348 days or almost a year to complete a foreclosure. And these foreclosures are not expected to bring down the whole neighborhood. According to Stuart Vener, a national real estate and mortgage expert with Wilshire Holding Group, a Florida-based company, this will give buyers an opportunity to buy impressive houses at bargain prices, which can boost overall sales and drive turnover. Sudden cardiac death is a risk for patients with heart failure because the calcium inside their heart cells is not properly controlled and this can lead to an irregular heartbeat. New findings published in PLoS ONE, which reveal mechanisms that underlie this life-threatening risk, provide new possibilities for fighting it.
The study, led by researchers from the University of Bristol's School of Physiology and Pharmacology, show how two individual but very similar proteins cooperatively adjust the amount of calcium inside the heart cells, and how this dual regulation may degenerate in heart failure.
In the heart cells of healthy people, calcium is released from intracellular stores and causes the heart to beat strongly so that it can pump blood around the body. The intracellular stores of calcium are released through specialised gates called 'ryanodine receptor (RyR) channels' in a controlled manner at appropriate times and in suitable quantities. In patients with heart failure, release of intracellular calcium can become irregular and less tightly controlled resulting in an abnormal heart rhythm.
By removing individual RyR channels from heart cells and incorporating them into artificial membranes, the researchers were able to measure the tiny calcium currents that flow through a single channel molecule.
The team discovered that two individual proteins, called FKBP12 and FKBP12.6, bind tightly to the RyR channels and alter the amount of calcium that flows through them.
Their study shows that although FKBP12 and FKBP12.6 are almost identical, the proteins have very different functions. FKBP12 increases calcium fluxes through RyR channels while FKBP12.6 blocks the effects of FKBP12. It seems that this dual regulation by the two proteins may be damaged in heart failure.
Dr Rebecca Sitsapesan at the University, said: "Diseases of the heart and circulatory systems are the main cause of death in the UK and account for almost 191,000 deaths each year one in three deaths1. These new findings are important because we can use this information to help develop new treatments for patients with heart disease to reduce the risks of sudden cardiac death."

Ohio mom, baby found shot to death alongside man

CLEVELAND -- Police say a 19-year-old mom and her 1-year-old daughter were found shot to death in a Cleveland garage next to the body of the woman's estranged boyfriend, who was suspected of kidnapping them.
Cleveland police Sgt. Sammy Morris said the three were found with gunshot wounds before 3 a.m. Sunday in a closed garage at an unoccupied building. He said it appeared the man, Thomas Lorde, 35, had shot himself in the head.
Lorde had abducted Latasha Jackson and her daughter, Chaniya Wynn, around noon Saturday as the mother walked with her 14-year-old brother and pushed the little girl in a brown and pink stroller, according to a police report.
The teen said Lorde pulled a gun and ordered him to walk away, saying he was going to kill Jackson and take the child, the report says.
Police said the couple had dated for about two months and that Jackson was trying to end the relationship.
An Amber Alert issued on behalf of Jackson described Lorde as a violent sexual predator with outstanding felony warrants in New York.
According to the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Lorde had been convicted of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl in 1996.
Red roses, wrapped in cellophane, leaned against the garage where police discovered the bodies, the Plain Dealer reported. On the side of the garage, spray-painted messages read: "Rest in Peace Latasha and Chaniya" and "We Love U 2012".
Telephone messages placed by msnbc.com seeking comment with family members of Jackson were not immediately returned.

CBS Los Angeles said Woo had been named by authorities and spoke to a neighbor who told the station that she was "very proud" of him.
Earlier Claude Arnold, special agent in charge for ICE/Homeland Security Investigations in Los Angeles, said that the injured supervisor, Kevin Kozak, 51, who was shot six times, was still alive because of Woo.
"Agent Kozak is alive today because of the heroic actions of a third ICE supervisor," Arnold said, according to CBS. "While that agent's quick thinking saved Agent Kozak?s life, it also meant one of his colleagues died."
Susan Varjuknupson, told the station that she was "very proud he's my neighbor."
"If we ever have any trouble, I'm going to knock on his door and make sure that he's the one that has the gun," she added.
'Refused to succumb'
NBC Los Angeles reported Friday that the gunman, named as special agent Ezequiel Garcia, 45, started shooting while being counseled on his performance by Kozak, the deputy special agent in charge of the Los Angeles area, on Thursday just before 6 p.m. local time (9 p.m. ET).
Kozak was shot six times with bullets hitting his upper torso, legs and hands, but was described Friday as alert and talking in hospital.
"He is a fighter, and I believe that's why he's alive today," Arnold said. "He refused to succumb to his injuries and in law enforcement that's what makes the difference between people who go home at the end of the day and those who don't."

A federal official with knowledge of the investigation told The Associated Press that Kozak had denied a request for an internal transfer request by Garcia. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss the investigation publicly.
ICE routinely reallocates resources in line with priorities, but does not disclose information about transfers due to security reasons, ICE spokeswoman Virginia Kice said.

Before Woo was named, The Associated Press reported that he had been placed on administrative leave.
ICE Director John Morton said he met with the agent and described him as doing "remarkably well under the circumstances."
"This agent acted with extraordinary calm and took quick and decisive steps to deal with a very dangerous situation," Morton said.
"Both of these men came to work yesterday never imagining if they would literally be fighting for their lives, but that is exactly what in fact happened, and they were tested in a very dangerous way and showed incredible fortitude," said Morton.
CBS Los Angeles reported that Woo was a celebrated agent who was known for his work in helping to find lost children.
