'American Idol,' 'Modern Family' top Wednesday ratings ? The TV ...

?American Idol? may not be the ratings powerhouse it once was, but it remained the most popular show locally and nationally?Wednesday night.

?Idol? averaged 13.1 million viewers and put Fox on top for the night in total viewers and the 18-to-49 age group. But ABC?s ?Modern Family? was the most popular show with young adults.

The other broadcast network averages in prime time: CBS with 9.8 million, ABC with 6.9 million, NBC with 5.2 million and The CW with 2.7 million.

CBS? strongest show was ?Criminal Minds? with 10.6 million viewers, followed by ?Survivor? with 9.4 million and ?CSI? with 9.3 million.

?Modern Family? was ABC?s standout with 10.6 million viewers. ?The Middle? amused 8 million. The other ABC series were weaker: ?Suburgatory? with 6.3 million viewers, ?The Neighbors? with 6.1 million and ?Nashville? with 5.1 million.

NBC?s ?Chicago Fire? overshadowed ?Nashville? with 6.5 million viewers. Long-running ?Law & Order: Special Victims Unit? arrested 5.6 million for NBC. The CW?sbest showing came from ?Arrow? with 3.3 million; ?Supernatural? brough in 2.2 million.

In Orlando, ?American Idol??drew 200,600 viewers with performances by 10 female singers. The judges moved these singers to the next round:?Janelle Arthur, 23, from Oliver Springs, Tenn.; Aubrey Cleland, 19, from West Linn, Ore. Candice Glover, 23, St. Helena Island, S.C.; Zoanette Johnson, 20, from Tulsa, Okla.; and Breanna Steer, 18, from LaPlace, La.

The No. 2 show was??Modern Family? with 174,800 viewers. ?The Middle??ranked third with 135,300 viewers.

Then came three CBS series: ?Survivor? with 128,200 viewers, ?Criminal Minds? with 121,500 and ?CSI? with 120,100. ?CSI? was far more popular than two freshman dramas at 10:? ?Nashville? with 68,000 viewers and??Chicago Fire? with 61,800.
