Pakistan, India exchange lists of prisoners, nuclear sites

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and India on Sunday exchanged lists of prisoners in each other?s custody, as well as a list of their nuclear sites.

According to the Agreement on Consular Access signed between the two countries on May 21, 2008, both the countries are required to exchange lists of prisoners in each other?s custody on January 1 and July 1 every year. According to a press release of Foreign Office, consistent with the provisions of Agreement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs handed over the list of Indian prisoners in Pakistan to an Indian High Commission official at the Foreign Office. The Indian side also handed over the list of Pakistani prisoners in India to a Pakistan High Commission official at the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi.

The two nations also swapped lists of their nuclear sites under an accord which prohibits both sides from attacking these locations, the Foreign Ministry said. Under the 1988 agreement, the nuclear-armed neighbours are required to submit the lists of all their respective nuclear installations and facilities ? civilian and military ? on January 1 every year. ?In accordance with the aforesaid agreement, a list of requisite facilities in Pakistan was given to the Indian high commission official at the foreign office today,? a statement from Pakistan?s foreign ministry said. agencies
