DHL has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with South Africa's Mining Oil and Gas Services (MGOS) to become its preferred logistics partner in the development of a new Oilfield Services Complex (OSC) in Saldanha, South Africa.

As per the agreement DHL will provide bonded chartering services, warehousing and facility management, ocean freight, air freight, road freight, clearing and forwarding, customs brokerage, express logistics and supply base management.

The completion of Saldanha OSC will be expanded to 500ha in 2015 and will serve major oil companies in the west, central and southern African offshore oil and gas fields.

DHL Global Forwarding Europe, Middle East and Africa CEO Thomas Nieszner said Africa is one of the fastest growing regions in DHL's network.

"Partnering with the continent's key institutions and organizations to create logistics and service hubs such as this one with MOGS is how we leverage the growth opportunities here as well as add value at the same time," Nieszner said.

"Logistics is a key element of the OSC and it is exciting to become a strategic partner at an early stage, where we can be involved in the development of Saldanha's air, sea and ground infrastructure."

MOGS is a part of the Royal Bafokeng Holdings aims to provide bespoke facilities, infrastructure and land to the major oil companies and MNCs at Saldanha in a multi-phased, multi-site development.

The development includes the expansion of Oilfield Services Air Logistics Hub serving West, Central & Southern African offshore oil and gas fields.

South Africa's Mining Oil and Gas Services CEO Errol Gregor said, with DHL as the company's strategic partner in logistics, we are confident we will achieve our ambition to be the preferred partner for world energy companies in oil and gas services.

"MOGS has considerable experience designing and building oil and gas sector infrastructure with planned facilities in Luanda and Nigeria to service the west coast," Gregor said.

"By leveraging our combined strengths and capabilities, DHL and MOGS can work towards making Saldanha a one-stop shop for the offshore energy industry in Africa."
