John M. Couric, father of news anchor Katie Couric, has died, according to The Associated Press. He was 90.
A private service will be held for Couric, who died Wednesday at a Virginia Hospital in Arlington of complications from Parkinson's disease, said his son, John M. Couric Jr.

In a case of the apple not falling far from the tree, Couric began his career as a reporter for the Atlanta Constitution and United Press. Before he retired as a writer in 1985, he worked in public relations.
The news of Couric's death was first reported by The Washington Post.
